Platelet Rich Plasma in Atlanta, GA

At Harley Institute, platelet-rich plasma therapy uses your body’s own healing process to refresh and repair the skin. The treatment starts with a small sample of your blood that is gently spun to separate the plasma. This plasma is rich in platelets and growth factors that support tissue repair and collagen production. When applied to targeted areas, it helps improve tone, texture, and elasticity while softening fine lines and scars. Many people choose this therapy because it works with the body instead of against it. Keep reading to find out how platelet-rich plasma can restore a healthy, natural glow without harsh chemicals or long recovery times.

Combat hair loss with PRP injections in Atlanta, GA. Harley Institute uses advanced Platelet Rich Plasma therapy to stimulate natural hair growth.

How Platelet Rich Plasma Therapy Works

During the first part of your visit, a small sample of blood is drawn and placed in a centrifuge. A device spins at a controlled speed to separate the components. What remains is a clear, golden fluid packed with platelets and growth factors. These are the same cells that help the body repair after an injury. When introduced into the skin, they send a message to begin renewal. Collagen fibers tighten, circulation improves, and new tissue forms gradually in the weeks ahead. Because everything comes from your own blood, there’s no risk of allergic reaction or chemical irritation. People seek this treatment for a range of goals. Some want smoother skin or fewer fine lines. Others want to reduce acne scars or improve under-eye circles. Whatever the focus, platelet-rich plasma therapy in Atlanta has become a trusted option for patients who want natural rejuvenation.

What to Expect During the Appointment

Your visit starts with a consultation. We'll review your goals, examine your skin, and explain what areas respond best. Once you’re ready, the blood draw takes only a few minutes. While the plasma separates, the treatment area is prepared. The next step depends on the technique your specialist recommends. For facial rejuvenation, the plasma may be injected directly into the skin or applied after a microneedling session. Both methods help deliver the growth factors where they can do the most good. A topical numbing cream is applied first to keep you comfortable. Each session usually lasts about an hour. Afterward, you might notice mild redness or swelling that fades within a day or two. Many people go back to normal activities the same afternoon. It’s important to remember that platelet-rich plasma therapy doesn’t produce an instant, dramatic change. Instead, results build as collagen forms and tissue strengthens.

Combining PRP With Other Skin Treatments

PRP therapy can be customized to support a complete skincare plan. The treatment blends well with procedures that enhance collagen or resurface the skin. One popular combination is PRP with microneedling. Microneedling creates small microchannels that allow the plasma to penetrate more deeply. The growth factors then amplify the body’s response, which speeds up the repair process and improves texture. PRP can also follow laser treatments or chemical peels to encourage faster healing and better tone. Adding the plasma helps the redness fade sooner, and the skin recovers with less dryness. Some clients use platelet rich plasma alongside fillers or Botox to maintain skin quality between cosmetic treatments. This flexibility is one reason many clients work with a PRP doctor in Atlanta who tailors each session to their unique skin type and schedule. A thoughtful plan ensures the therapy complements other treatments rather than competing with them.

Typical Recovery and Aftercare

Once your session is done, you might see light redness or feel mild tenderness, similar to a small sunburn. These signs fade within the next day or two. Take it easy on your skin while it heals. You might also want to avoid sunlight, makeup, or strong products for the day. Staying hydrated helps your skin recover better. Most people return to work or social plans right away. Within the first week, the skin begins to feel firmer. Over the next several weeks, new collagen fibers form under the surface. Fine lines soften, and texture evens out. The change is subtle at first, then gradually more noticeable as the skin continues to renew itself. Some patients schedule a series of treatments spaced several weeks apart to build on the results. Many find that one or two maintenance sessions a year keep the glow steady. A gradual, natural improvement is what draws many people to PRP therapy in Atlanta because it doesn’t require major downtime or carry the risks of synthetic fillers.

The Science Behind the Glow

What makes platelet rich plasma therapy remarkable is the concentration of growth factors inside each platelet. These proteins send signals that tell cells to grow, fix damage, and form new tissue. It’s the same kind of response that happens naturally when your skin heals after a scrape, but in a cosmetic procedure, it’s done in a controlled way. As the growth factors move deeper into the skin, they trigger fibroblasts, the cells that make collagen, to start working again. Collagen gives skin its firmness and elasticity, which tend to fade with age. Reactivating the process allows the therapy to work beneath the surface to restore structure instead of simply masking aging on top. Blood-derived treatments have been used in medicine for decades. Orthopedic doctors use similar methods to speed recovery from joint injuries. Dentists use them to help bone and gum tissue heal. The same science now supports skin rejuvenation, with excellent safety records and high patient satisfaction.

Platelet Rich Plasma FAQ

Frequently Asked Question

Is hair reduction using laser permanent?

Treatment results may vary among patients. The Altus CoolGlide Laser is cleared by the FDA for Permanent Hair Reduction. The FDA defines permanent hair reduction as the long term, stable reduction in the number of hairs re-growing after a treatment regime.

Will it work on dark skin?

The Cutera CoolGlide Laser is FDA-approved for use in types I to VI skin, that is, from the whitest white to the darkest dark. Care is taken with the darker shades of skin, but excellent results can be obtained in black skin.

What does it feel like?

The laser treatment may feel like a mild sting for a fraction of a second. It has a built-in cooling tip that not only helps to protect the skin but also helps to minimize the discomfort.

How long do the treatments take?

An upper lip and chin can be done in 5 to 10 minutes. Underarms or bikini lines usually take 15 to 20 minutes. Legs and backs take longer. Very often, follow-up treatments are shorter (and less expensive) because there is much less hair to treat.

How many treatments are necessary?

This is very important to understand. Hair goes through 3 stages of development. Typically in the anagen stage, the hair will respond more effectively to treatment. At any given time, only one third of human hair is in the anagen stage. For this reason, it is necessary to treat an area at least 3 times with the treatments spaced approximately 6 weeks apart in order to see the best and longest lasting results. Darker hair will respond better, but both dark and light hair may need up to 5 treatments for maximum response and the best long-term results.

Results - What can I expect?

There is often no immediate change. Your skin may get slightly red or even develop a small crust that will peel. The laser may leave small red marks on your skin. The marks clear up in a few days. The hair that has been destroyed will not start to fall out for 2-3 weeks. Many times it will get darker and thicker just before it falls out. Don't worry if you do not see an obvious change immediately after your first treatment.
